Rocky is a Senior Jazz Studies major at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington. A Vic-Firth educational contributing artist, NAFME collegiate author, and shedthemusic.com online educator, Rocky is very active in jazz and drum set education, teaching drum lessons privately in his Chicago and Bloomington teaching studios. He is well versed in a multitude of playing styles and performances as a drummer and percussionist.
Martin's versatility is showcased in several different projects, including recording and performing with his jazz collective, Heartland Trio, and arranging for and performing with Bloomington's New Orleans-style brass party band, 'B-Town Brass Band'. He is immersed in IU's Theater and drama departments, playing in orchestras for over 15 main-stage productions including "West Side Story", "Jesus Christ Superstar", "The Duchess of Malfi", "Avenue Q", and "Hello Again".
Rocky has performed at Chicago's Hyde Park Jazz Fest, Iowa City Jazz Fest, Playwrights Downtown in NYC, Bloomington Jazz Fest, Midway Music Festival, the Palmer House Hotel and the House of Blues in Chicago, and various clubs and venues across the Midwest. He studies with internationally recognized artists and educators Steve Houghton and Michael Spiro and has shared the stage with Walter Smith III, John Raymond, Dave Stryker, Kate McGarry, Darmon Meader, and Todd Coolman. Rocky is very excited to continue his educational and performance-based career at the highest level possible.
